The recent CD release of (re-worked) Beatles songs has probably deservedly been met with cynicism about it being a purely commercial enterprise. It's not being very prophetic to suggest that it will be in quite a lot of stockings this Christmas.
The new era of downloading music and the legal unavailability of The Beatles via this medium has sidelined them somewhat. That's probably why this new compilation works. It helps to re-establish just how stonkingly good the mop-tops were. There's just enough new little bits to keep you listening avidly. |

|  babu357 | Feb 5, 2007 6:08am | Y know i didn't get the album. I just kind of forgot about it during the Christmas season. Well of course it's commercial. But I don't know after reading Paul's and Ringo's comments I think they're at the age where they are enjoying looking back fondly on that part of their life. They spent so much of the past trying to get away from it and now they can just apperciate it more. So, although it' s very commercial, It's also just a nice thing....If they actually produce something that's different from what we've already gotten on other albums. (I was disappointed in "Let it be" naked )
Don't really know why they are not legally available for downloads. It's always something legal with them though isn't it. |

Who would ever think of putting some of these songs together? One can imagine Blackbird/Yesterday but Come Together/Dear Prudence and Cry Baby Cry is really different. I think a great job was done. |
